Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez 7 September 1964, is an American dancer and choreographer. Her breakout moment came with Tina's character in Do the Right Thing (1989), then followed by White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993) resulted in her an award nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, among other accolades. Her starring film roles since include It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado (2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2020).
Perez was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Award nominations in In Living Color (1990-1994), and an additional Emmy nomination (2020-present) for her character as The Flight Attendant. She has been in Broadway productions, including The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. She also hosted The View's 18th season on The View, ABC's talk show. The View.
Early life
Perez was born on September 6 1964, in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, to Lydia Perez and Ismael Serrano who was a seaman in the merchant marine. Her mother Lydia (nee Fontanez y Reyes) was born October 13, 1939, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Her father was from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. Following an affair with Serrano's father Perez's mother been blessed with five kids. Perez was born in the now closed Greenpoint Hospital in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is one of her ten children. Rosie and her siblings grew up in Bushwick when their mother was intermittently jailed. The mother of her child was born to her youngest child while incarcerated. After being raised by her aunt, she was placed in group homes and foster care. They and their siblings were often divided. She was transferred to a group foster home , and lived in foster care in New York and Peekskill until age eight. It was legal to consider her to be a ward of State of New York until age twelve. Her mother and aunt frequently visited her, and her father tried unsuccessfully to gain custody at one time.
